Centre for Alternative Technology
The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is an educational centre located in Snowdonia and is dedicated to exploring and demonstrating "globally sustainable, whole and ecologically sound technologies and ways of life".
CAT promotes living in harmony with nature
The centre was first conceived in 1973 by Gerard Morgan-Grenville and since then there has been a small community living there, putting environmental theories and technologies into practice on a daily basis.
The core ethos of CAT is to promote another way of living, one that is in harmony with nature. The overall aim of CAT is to demonstrate to people their negative environmental impact and help them to reduce this impact.
Key features of CAT
CAT has a visitor centre, with interactive displays. CAT also run a free information service as well as consultancy services for larger enquiries. The centre also runs conferences, workshops, school trips, and offer a range of residential and non residential training courses from practical courses such as ‘Making your Own Biodiesel’ and ‘Wind Power’ to Msc Degrees for example, ‘Managing the Environment’.
CAT also publish and sell eco books/information and run their own media department.
