Eliot Park Innovation Centre (EPIC)
EPIC is a new multi-occupancy development in Nuneaton built on a former brownfield site.
Solar energy modules generate enough power for all office equipment
EPIC was opened in March 2005 and provides space for small and growing businesses with the accent on innovation.
The development has attracted a considerable amount of funding from Warwickshire County Council and Advantage West Midlands with further grant support from the European Regional Development Fund and a sizeable grant under the DTIs Major Photovoltaic Demonstration Programme.
The building is BREEAM rated excellent and has won the ICE award for Sustainability.
Key features of the building:
- The construction has been designed to minimise energy required for lighting, heating and power, with a projected energy usage and CO2 emissions of less than 50 percent of those of a standard commercial office space.
- Fresh air at a controlled temperature is circulated through the floor structures, providing heating, cooling and ventilation.
- Sensors detect and adjust the lighting according to the level of natural light; optimising illumination and ensuring that only occupied areas of the building are lit.
The building makes use of an energy saving termodeck system and uses photovoltaic panels to create electricity for 15 and 20 per cent of the electricity demand in this very energy efficient building.
