Marley Roofing
Marley Roofing has committed themselves to improving their environmental performance at many of their sites.
Marley's waste costs have been reduced by 50%
Specific measures include:
- Working with the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to develop life cycle assessment data for all its products. (In 2001, Marley was the first company to be awarded Certified Environmental Profiles and certificates (based on Life Cycle Assessment data) under BRE’s Certified Environmental Profiles Scheme).
- Helping to influence the supply chain by running CPD seminars on sustainable pitched roofing.
- Putting in place a significant waste minimisation programme. Main efforts are concentrated on reducing waste at source, for example crushing concrete waste and re-using this partly for aggregate. In total this has achieved savings of 15,000 tonnes aggregate/year.
- A project to provide a sustainable solution to the problem of disposal of pigmented slurry waste arising from its production processes- which has seen waste handling costs reduce by 50%, saving £25,000 per annum and diverted 288 tonnes of hazardous waste from landfill.
