David Kidney MP (Stafford)

David Kidney, born in 1955 in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent.

Educated Pinewood Primary School, Longton High School, City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, Bristol University.

Previously a well-known Stafford solicitor for 20 years, after election in May 1997 David gave up his job to be able to work full time for his constituents.

Was a Stafford Borough Councillor, from 1987-97, is a school governor for Silkmore Primary school in Stafford.

Married to Elaine with two children, Robert and Katy.

Within parliament, David chaired the "Fair Funding F40" group of the 40 worst funded areas in the country, to gain better funding for our local schools.

Member of the Treasury Select Committee from 1997 to 2001, David had the job of bringing parliament into the 21st century in his position on the Modernisation Committee from 2001 - 2005. He was also a member of the Rural Group of Labour MPs and All-party groups on Children, Conservation, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Myodil and Housing. He was also Co-Chair of PACTS (Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety).

In the recent Parliament, David was elected to chair the Labour Party's Legal & Constitutional Committee. One of a series of new committees aimed at brining backbench MP's and Ministers closer together.

More recently David was asked by colleagues in both the Commons and the Lords to chair an All-Party Group on Conservation & Wildlife. A new group formed by the merging of the APG on Conservation and the APG on Wildlife Protection.
