Education

"Education for sustainable development enables people to develop the knowledge, values and skills to participate in decisions about the way we do things individually and collectively, both locally and globally, that will improve the quality of life now, without damaging the planet for the future"
The National Curriculum, QCA, 1999

SEE Change will take this statement from the national curriculum as a starting point to develop programmes to educate and raise awareness of sustainable development with:

It will achieve this by developing:

The Sustainable Development Curriculum

Business and the public sector are increasingly looking for sustainable solutions to achieve their current business needs and future aspirations. This will stimulate the demand for a new skill set to be developed and delivered.

SEE Change will work with partners in the education sector, the Sector Skills Councils and the Learning and Skills Council to develop accredited courses at all levels and types of qualification.

This will include the development of NVQs and Apprenticeships associated with new technologies such as microgeneration, as well as courses on Sustainable Development in Higher Education.

SEE Change will also work with the education sector on embedding sustainable development in the current curriculum. It will achieve this by transferring the essential knowledge on Sustainable Development to educational professionals and working with them on its application.

Continuous Professional Development

In addition to the development of accredited qualifications SEE Change will work with partners to develop and deliver short courses on sustainable development topics. These will be designed to:

  • Provide continuous professional development for practitioners and the business community via web based training and short course programmes
  • Provide an introduction to SD principles for people wanting to improve and develop their knowledge on sustainable development
  • Deliver the latest thinking on Sustainable Development principles and how they can be applied via a knowledge transfer network

SEE Change will also work with the wider community in raising the awareness of sustainable development and its application in our day to day lives.

It will provide teaching resources to schools via web based support and by the development of an education and visitors centre.
